Baseline Data Now Available!

On this page you will find datasets to support you in responding to the humanitarian challenges you may face during the simulation. Not all the datasets may be necessary for you depending on your priorities and approach, so use them at your discretion. Additionally, the data required for your objectives may not be included in the data assets provided, so feel free to BYOD (Bring your own data) or hunt for additional information and resources online.

You will find baseline data to support your team below, and additional datasets will be made available here throughout the simulation. Feel free to download and dive into the data ahead of the simulation, do some preparation, and perhaps gather additional data resources that you would like to use during the simulation.

Below you will find a collection of data and resources to support your team in responding to the challenges that you may face during the simulation. Feel free to download and analyze ahead of the simulation and to supplement your analysis with additional datasets and information. While this is not an exhaustive list, more data and resources will be released throughout the simulation.

Satellite Imagery

Surrounding crises, Maxar often releases high-resolution satellite imagery through their Open Data Program (ODP). In this package, you will find a collection of high resolution satellite imagery within our Area of Interest (AOI) that were generated around the time of the crises in the simulation.

Simulation Day 2 Data Releases

This resource is a set of gameboards/maps with the reference grids to allow teams to more accurately geolocate their actions and reference activity during the simulation. There are also a few notes from gameplay on Day 1 that may prove useful to teams on Day 2
This data package includes various resources that may aid in responding to the Nyiragongo eruption. We have also mapped and included shapes for the current known extent of the lava flows.
NOTE: The lava appears to be flowing very quickly! We will do our best to map the extent of the lava flows as frequently as possible and provide updated shapes in subsequent data releases.
This data package includes high resolution satellite imagery that was captured shortly after the Nyiragongo eruption and provided by Maxar’s Open Data Program
This data package includes Sentinel-5P NRTI air quality rasters captured shortly after the eruption

Simulation Day 3 Data Releases

This resource is a set of gameboards/maps with the reference grids to allow teams to more accurately geolocate their actions and reference activity during the simulation. Annotations have been removed as the events from the first two days of the simulation are now 3 years in the past.
This data package includes updated/current versions of the conflict datasets in the baseline data, along with other supplemental conflict event data.

This data package includes information on humanitarian funding. FTS publishes data on humanitarian funding flows as reported by donors and recipient organizations. It presents all humanitarian funding to a country and funding that is specifically reported or that can be specifically mapped against funding requirements stated in humanitarian response plans. The data comes from OCHA’s Financial Tracking Service, is encoded as utf-8 and the second row of the CSV contains HXL tags.

This dataset contains information related to humanitarian needs within DRC
This download contains a tif file that shows settlement growth and an associated .qml file for symbolizing the tif in QGIS. ID 0 corresponds to non-settlement, ID 1 corresponds to the settlement extent at July 2016, ID 2 corresponds to the growth between July 2016 and January 2017, and so on until ID 17 that corresponds to the growth between January and July 2024.
