Phoenix Mural – 2026

“Growth From the Sky”

Image 23 e1791856477944
“Growth From the Sky” explores how NASA Earth science data supports humanitarian and agricultural organizations, helping inform farming practices that nourish communities in Phoenix and beyond.
The composition connects Earth and sky through NASA research. A geometric circle pattern runs across all three panels to represent patterns of satellite observation. On the left, the Sun represents Earth’s essential source of heat and life. At the center, a Phoenix sunset establishes a strong sense of place. A quail symbolizes the connection between Earth and sky, and oranges reference the region’s agricultural heritage. On the right, Landsat represents the role of satellite data in observing Earth from space.

Together, these elements tell a story about how information gathered from above can support decisions on the ground, from agriculture and humanitarian response to urban heat mitigation and community resilience. The mural carries the same message Lifelines brings to every city it works in. Earth science data, shared with the people who can use it, helps communities prepare, adapt and grow.

Partnership

This mural is presented in partnership with Dr. Patricia Solis, executive director of the Center for Heat Preparedness at Arizona State University and cofounder of YouthMappers. The mural is hosted by Bioscience High School in downtown Phoenix, a school dedicated to STEM education. See the mural at 512 E Pierce St, Phoenix, AZ 85004.

Center for Heat Preparedness
The ASU Center for Heat Preparedness brings together researchers, community members, industry leaders and policymakers to better understand how extreme heat affects public health, infrastructure and vulnerable populations. The center translates research into actionable strategies that help communities prepare for intensifying heat and build resilience to one of the most pressing environmental challenges facing Arizona and communities nationwide.

YouthMappers
YouthMappers is a global community of students, researchers, educators and scholars using public geospatial technologies to highlight and directly address development and environmental challenges around the world. Through mapping and open geospatial data, YouthMappers helps communities better understand environmental and humanitarian challenges and supports locally relevant solutions.

About Lifelines Murals

The Lifelines Mural Contest is a six-year global art initiative that engages local artists and communities to create murals that shed light on the ways satellite data and tools are helping communities become more resilient.

Meet the Artist

RL shoot
Isaac Nicholas Caruso is a Phoenix based artist and creative director with 14 years of professional experience creating public art and visual narratives that engage communities. His work uses powerful, uplifting imagery to transform shared spaces and communicate ideas that bring people together.

Caruso’s practice is deeply informed by the relationship between people and the environment. In 2018, he traveled to Svalbard, Norway, with Arctic Circle, an international arts and science program focused on the Arctic environment. The experience culminated in a 50 foot mural in Downtown Phoenix exploring how people are connected through the environment, regardless of geographic distance.

Environmental themes continue to shape his public art practice, where he combines research, storytelling and vibrant imagery to create work in Phoenix that encourages connection and reflection on place, community and the environment.
