Humanitarian Simulations

This collaborative game will take a real-world scenario from our humanitarian partners and challenge teams to work together to avert the next crisis using satellite data and tools. NASA Lifelines is partnered with Imaginetic to bring the Humanitarian Simulation to life.

Our theme across the simulation will be mapping vulnerable populations. Through our simulation scenarios, teams will be asked to map vulnerable populations and provide key information for early warning, crisis response, and long-term recovery. Teams will have access to an array of satellite data and tools and mentorship to help them as new questions and challenges arise.

Program Occurrence

Virtual & Five In-Person Hubs TBD

Simulation Dates

October 15-17, 202

Registration Opens

July 2024

Highlights of the Simulation

Three day crisis scenario taking place over a wide time span – before the crisis during the early warning phase, the immediate crisis response, and years ahead in a protracted situation.

There will be seats for up to 250 participants who will be grouped in teams. The Teams will be assigned humanitarian roles and expected to work together to address different challenges and scenarios

In the weeks leading up to the simulation, teams will have access to satellite data and tools as well as training and resources to help them prepare.

Teams should be ready to learn, work together, innovate on the fly, and meet new colleagues and friends.

Who should get involved?

Participation is open to folks from around the world who are interested in using satellite data and tools for humanitarian action.

Any humanitarians who are interested using more satellite data and tools in their work. Any scientists, researchers, and technologists who want their expertise and experiences to support humanitarian missions. Any science communicators who share information for humanitarian decision-making.

How to get involved

Participation will happen virtually. You will need a computer or laptop and a good internet connection. Sign up to receive simulation updates here
